Not in looks.
Not in what they say.
Just in what they are."

On many counts, taking a boy like Rudy Steiner was robbery—so much life, so much to live for—yet somehow, I’m certain he would have loved to see the frightening rubble and the swelling of the sky on the night he passed away. He’d have cried and turned and smiled if only he could have seen the book thief on her hands and knees, next to his decimated body. He’d have been glad to witness her kissing his dusty, bomb-hit lips. Yes, I know it. In the darkness of my dark-beating heart, I know. He’d have loved it all right. You see? Even death has a heart.

there are just some books that no matter how long it had been since you finished them youd never ever get them out of your head they just stay in you forever
"I am haunted by humans."
I don’t think that I acknowledge enough how amazing it is to see The Book Thief being widely recognised. I’m not exaggerating when I say that it has had such a profound impact on me as both a reader and a person. When I first read it a few years ago, I had no one to share it with. Just comparing my oldest and newest editions of the book alone says a lot - Sunday Times bestseller to over 8 million copies sold worldwide. I’m so proud to call myself a word shaker but most of all, I’m proud of Markus Zusak and this beautiful book.
